Match Report

Glendale welcomed Alford to Maryculter in a Div 1 East fixture which ended all square after an entertaining 90 minutes.

Glendale kicked off in perfect conditions for a game of football but it was the visitors who had the first chance when Fraser showed some fancy footwork on the wing to test Derek McKenzie who did well to palm the ball round the post. The opening exchanges were even but on 11 minutes Alford went ahead. Jonny Reith’s header away from a corner went up in the air and as the ball was played back into the box Dale’s defenders stood appealing for offside as FRASER shot into the net from 8 yards. As Alford pushed for a second Dale gradually began to work their way back into things and when Ally Black passed wide to Connor Pirie the full back checked inside his man and crossed for CAMMY WILLOX to leap highest in the crowded box and score with a header even though his eyes were closed! The remainder of the half was played at a fast pace as both teams went for it but neither Keeper was seriously tested with both defence’s giving nothing away.H,T 1-1.

The second half saw Ryan McRae replaced by ” Wine Connoisseur” John Cameron as Glendale began to dominate. Chances were being created but still Taylor in the Alford goal was still to be tested. As Dale rang the changes it was to be one of the Substitutes who was to make the breakthrough. A cross to the far post saw James McMahon’s effort blocked but CALUM ROBERTSON was on hand to score from close range. Alford were then reduced to ten men when K Taylor was given his 2nd yellow of the afternoon as Glendale looked for the next goal to kill the game off but were stung right at the end as 10 man Alford equalised. A free kick on the edge of the Dale box was deflected wide for a corner and from Crombie’s corner kick Dale’s defenders struggled to clear and FERRIES ┬ápounced to shoot low into the net.

Glendale were left kicking themselves for not driving home their man advantage while credit goes to Alford who never gave up and battled to the end for a hard earned point.
