Glendale faced the North of Scotland holders and Premier div leaders on Saturday as the Woodside juggernaut rolled into town. Just on kick off the Glendale support were delighted to see Callum Stewart and Stewart Muirhead take their seat in the stand,The popular duo,Still along way off a comeback after suffering horrific injuries last season remain positive and everyone at the Dale wishes them well in their recovery.
Glendale, With a number of players missing started well taking the game to their opponents but fell behind on 13 minutes when from a free kick right on the edge of the Dale penalty box NEIL bent a shot over the wall which took a slight deflection on it’s way into the net. Mark Robb almost equallised when he fired a low shot goalward which Noble did well to block with his legs. Dale forced a number of corners in the 1st half and Craig McRae saw his effort just clear the bar as Glendale continued to look for the leveler. Right on half time a skirmish on the edge of the Dale box brought a moment of “handbags”where the Referee had to step in and this seemed to break Dale’s concentration as straight from the free kick Woodside regained possession and SHAND was left free in front of goal to put his side two up H.T 0-2.
Woodside had another chance right after the break Donald had a clear sight of goal but pulled his effort wide and Glendale were given a lifeline when a challenge from behind on Darren Buchan saw the Referee point to the spot and after a debate between Robb and Buchan which was settled by the management DARREN BUCHAN made it look easy as he sent Noble the wrong way. Just as it looked like Dale would get back into the game Woodside went back up the park and scored again as to make it 3-1 but the introduction of James McMahon saw the youngster cross for MARK ROBB who outjumped the Woodside defence and direct a header into the net. Next a contender from the same player for goal of the season as MARK ROBB controlled a ball on his chest 18 yards from goal, swivelled and volleyed a shot into the roof of the net for a stunning goal. Robb’s celebration, which was to run to the dugout showing two fingers was either a gesture that he had scored 2 goals or it may have meant something else! It was game on for sure as Woodside were stunned and a cup shock looked on the cards but with 10 minutes left Woodside scored a quality goal when a deep cross from the right was expertly headed into the net giving Geddes no chance.
That goal was followed by a 5th to put the game beyond Glendale and it was the holders,That although were given a scare who progressed to the next round.
