Glendale played their 1 st cup tie of the season and comfortably dispatched Bon Accord City in the White Cup played at Maryculter on Saturday.
Glendale made a whirlwind start going 2-0 ahead in only 5 minutes. From virtually their first attack they won a corner which was only cleared as far as JAMES McMAHON and he rifled a low shot into the opposite corner from 15 yards. And the perfect start continued when from another corner this time by Callum Sutherland, ROSS YULE timed his run to perfection to the near post and volleyed home from 6 yards.
Bon Accord had already defeated Glendale this season in the league but they looked shell shocked at Glendale’s rapid start and had no answer to Dale’s slick movement with Sutherland in particular standing out with a hardworking performance in mid-field. Derek McKenzie was having an easy afternoon in goal for the Dale and was never tested at all during the 90 minutes. H.T 2-0
There was no let up from Glendale in the 2nd half as they kept on top of City and JAMES McMAHON went on to claim a 2nd half hat-trick with two calm finishes and a penalty but the best was saved to last when man of the match CALLUM SUTHERLAND picked up the ball just outside the City penalty box and showed great foot work to beat a couple of defenders then calmly picking his spot giving Drummond no chance.
A good all round performance from Glendale which will have done everyone’s confidence the world of good and it was great to see 3 of the youngest players on the park J McMahon,Sutherland and Connor Pirie play such with skill and determination which can only bode well for the future.
