Glendale made the trip to unbeaten Insch on Saturday and returned with all 3 points in a tense affair. An away game at Insch at anytime is seen as one of the most difficult on the soccer Calander although Glendale do have a very good record there. With a number of key players missing Dale brought in John Cameron and Chris Smith for their 1st starts while part timer Cammy Wright arrived just in time to claim the left back jersey.
Insch kicked off but it was Glendale who had the first chance when Mark Robb broke clear but Wood raced off his line to gather. Robb again was in the thick of the action as he rose above everyone at a corner only to see his effort clear the bar. Insch mid fielder Naysmith showed good skills to engineer a shooting chance for himself but his effort from distance was high and wide. Defences were on top for sure with chances at a premium and the 1st real glimpse of goal came on 28 minutes when James McMahon latched onto a slack pass back but again Wood was alive to the situation and parried the shot round the post. As the half time whistle sounded to give the players a well earned break it was Glendale who had done most of the attacking but both defences had given little away. H.T 0-0
The 2nd half saw Insch come out of the blocks showing more urgency but McKenzie still had to make a meaningful save. Alec McMahon was marshaling his troops well and keeping Insch at bay while Glendale always looked dangerous on the counter. Cruickshank stung the palms of McKenzie in the Dale goal with a long range effort on the hour mark but increasingly it looked like one goal would win it. With 5 minutes left Insch came close first when Connor Pirie was on the post to knock the ball away from a corner and from that resulting corner Stephen outjumped everyone to head inches over the bar. In a dramatic finish however with 2 minutes left on the clock Danny Lechner swung in a dangerous corner and ALEX McMAHON timed his run to perfection and direct a header into the roof of the net and spark a mini pitch invasion from the travelling support.
Insch may not agree but Glendale just about deserved the win, one thing that can’t be disputed is that not many teams will leave Insch with a clean sheet and 3 points in the bag.
