Glendale welcomed A C Mill Inn to Corbie Park for the first home game of the season on a surface that was looking immaculate thanks to the efforts over the Summer of James Grant and Alistair Oag. There was almost a sensational start to the game in only 3 minutes when Danny Lechner and Craig McRae worked a free kick which deceived the visitors and McRae’s cross struck the bar before being cleared. Mark Robb raced clear but a fine last minute challenge halted the attack. Both teams were trying to get the ball down and pass on the excellent surface but Dale’s early dominance began to wain as the visitors began to find their feet. With A C Mill Inn on top Glendale scored against the run of play. A deep free kick from inside the half way line by C McRae found RYAN McRAE whose low right foot drive found the corner of the net with Robb having the audacity to claim a touch. C McRae made a hash of a clearance which caused panic in the Dale penalty box but his older brother, not for the first time, stepped in to tidy up his mess then McMahon was penalised for a challenge right on the edge of the box and McKenzie was relived to watch the free kick slide past the post. H.T 1-0
The 2nd half opened with an early chance for Ally Black after good work by Robb but his effort went over the bar and on 50 minutes Mill Inn drew level when Scott robbed Yule and played the perfect pass for McLAUCHLIN to race clear and the youngster kept a cool head to drill a low shot well away from McKenzie. Just as in the 1st half with Mill Inn looking like they would take charge Glendale broke forward and ROSS YULE was on hand to bundle the ball over the line from close range after a goalmouth scramble for his 1st goal for the club. This time Dale did not let up and went through the gears to clinch the game. They scored a 3rd thanks to the persistence of Connor Pirie who won the ball back, layed it off to substitute Michael Thomson and his inviting cross was converted much more convincingly this time by ROSS YULE. A 4th followed when Cammy Willox played in MARK ROBB who drew the keeper and finished with ease.
An excellent weeks work from Glendale 3 tough games and 7 points is a decent return and if their “part time” players continue to turn up everyweek will be difficult to stop this season.
