Having secured the Napier Shield in season 1988-89 Glendale had to wait till 1996-97 season for silverware to adorn the Boardroom again as they lifted the Bowie Cup after a penalty shoot out against Great Western United at Spain Park.
Glendale had accounted for Portlethan United in the 1st rd recording an emphatic 6-2 away victory [Taylor 3,Fearn, Wright and Paterson] then trounced Ellon Thistle 4-2 at home [Abercrombie,Paterson, Bowman and Fearn] then brushed Rattray’s X1 aside in the semi final 3-0 [Taylor 2 Abercrombie] to set up a final against Great Western. Such was Glendale’s league season however that although Cowie Thisle had romped away with the title Glendale had finished in yet another 3 way play off for the 2nd promotion spot along with University and Woodside which had to be squeezed in between. Glendale faced University on 31/5/97 and lost 1-2 [Abercrombie] then 3 days later played the cup final which ended 1-1 after extra time [Fearn] and of course the dreaded penalty kicks followed. Up stepped STEVEN FERRIER and NEIL McCUBBIN who converted as Great Western missed 2 and RYAN STEWART saved one leaving COLIN BARRY to drill one straight down the middle and win the cup. Not much time to celebrate however as only 2 days later 5/6/97 the players fitness was tested to the full as they still had to play Woodside in the remaining play off fixture which Woodside won 2-0 to gain promotion to the 1st Divison.
24 players were used in total with N Taylor finishing top scorer 28 [37 games] just ahead of R Fearn 21[31 games] while S Aberdein played 42 [+2 sub] of the 48 games.
