Starting this week for 6 weeks a brand new series featuring some of Glendale’s most memorable games over the last 45 years starting with the first trophy Glendale won the Gentry Trophy back in 1982.
Then Glendale were of course a Juvenile team playing in the now defunct District League which had an under 27 age limit. Glendale had finished a modest 5th in a 10 team league but had faired much better in the cups reaching 3 finals that year the most prestigious of these being the East of Scotland Cup [24/5/82] which they lost 3-2 [Haining 2] in extra time after being 2-0 ahead in only 30 minutes to a strong Burbank team .
A week later Dale were back on the park though and defeated Deevale 5-3[Simpson 3,Haining,Paterson] after extra time in the semi final of the Courage cup and on the 8th of June faced Continental in the final losing 2-0.
2 days later on the 10th of June Glendale were back on the park again and faced Glenavon in the final of the Gentry Trophy at Linksfield 2. Anderson gave Glendale the lead in the 1st half but Glenavon fought back to equalise and force extra time. This time however their was to be a much better ending as DAVIE CAMERON popped up in the 2nd period to score and win the cup in the most dramatic fashion.
