Glendale secured all 3 points in a hard fought game against Stonehaven Athletic at Maryculter on Saturday, A result which should see them finish in the top half of the table.
Dale had the first chance of the afternoon in 2 minutes when a long throw from Connor Pirie caught Stonehaven by surprise but Graeme Oag’s chipped effort lacked power and Middleton gathered easily. Athletic, Desperate for the 3 points to confirm their status in Div 1 next season began brightly and some of their long range passing had the home defence back peddling with full backs Pirie and Brown under constant pressure and it was no surprise when the visitors edged ahead on 17 minutes. As the Dale defence failed to clear their lines CALLUM SUTHERLAND stepped in to shoot beyond Innes from 12 yards. The game then developed in to a dour struggle but out of the blue Glendale equalised in 37 minutes. J McMahon crossed to the back post,Mark Robb knocked the ball down for RYAN McCRAE to side foot home from close range. H.T1-1
The 2nd half followed much the same pattern as neither keeper was tested although there was an almighty let off for Dale on 60 minutes when Horner got behind the defence and smashed the ball into the net from 20 yards only for the “goal” to be chalked off for a very dodgy offside decision. The game looked to be heading for a draw till 9 minutes from the end when J McMahon again became the provider as his cross was turned into the net at the back post by GRAEME OAG.
