For the second time in 4 days Glendale and Bon Accord faced up to each other this time in the 1st rd of the Stephen Shield at Maryculter.
Dale had just managed to get the better of their opponents in mid week courtesy of an own goal when Graeme Oag’s shot which was going wide was deflected past his own keeper by a defender to give Glendale all 3 points and it was equally tight in this game.
Glendale almost took the lead in 5 minutes when Darren Buchan fired a terrific shot from 25 yards but the ball just flew over the bar. Most of the half was dominated by the visitors and they should have taken the lead on 30 minutes when Alex McMahon was adjudged to have pulled back his opponent for a harsh looking penalty but Stewart Muirhead pulled off a stunning save low to his right to turn away Nicolson’s well struck penalty. h.t 0-0
Bon Accord continued to dominate after the break but again Muirhead excelled with 2 stunning saves but was eventually beaten on 75 minutes when NICOLSON fired a shot past the keeper to give his side a deserved lead. However Dale responded with 5 minutes left thanks to Connor Pirie persistance to force Martin to concede a throw and from the throw in Innes headed on for CALLUM SUTHERLAND to sneak in at the back post and tap the ball over the line to force extra time.
Extra time saw 2 teams struggle to find a break through and so onto penalty kicks which saw Cameron,Innes,C McCrae and Noble all convert,Muirhead once again saved from Nicolson leaving GRAEME OAG the chance to become the hero by firing his spot kick high into the rigging and send Glendale through.
