Glendale recovered from going down 2-0 in the first 10 minutes to “storm” back to win 4-3 in a pulsating match against Don Athletic. A snow storm greeted both teams at kick off and Dale appeared lost in the storm as they conceded two cheap goals to go behind but as the weather abated Dale gradually worked their way back into the game and scored when the goalkeeper could only touch Graeme Oag’s free kick onto the post and NEIL HUMPHRIES was on hand to knock the rebound into the net. On the half hour mark a great through ball from Andy Will split the home defence allowing Stuart Hay through on goal, the keeper blocked his effort but MARK ROBB followed up to score. HT 2-2
Glendale had the elements in their favour 2nd half and both Will and Oag should have scored but the Athletic keeper did well to block both attempts. Dale eventually edged ahead after good work by substitute Danny Lechner who set up MARK ROBB for his second of the match. Don Athletic were not finished however and scored with 10 minutes remaining to bring the teams level again. Almost straight from the restart good work again from Lechner saw STUART HAY beat the offside trap to run through and score what proved to be the winner.
Great credit to both teams for producing an exciting game of football in what at times was atrocious conditions.
