Ten man Glendale progressed to the next of the Association cup with a hard fought victory over Div 1 East side Blackburn.
Blackburn looked menacing from the start but were stunned when Glendale took the lead in their very first attack in 5 minutes when Stuart Hay sent Callum Stewart away on the right and his cross was turned into the net by the inrushing Mark Robb. With ten minutes on the clock Dale extended their lead when Darren Buchan was upended in the box and the same player picked himself up to easily convert from the spot.
Glendale, looked at this point they would add to their advantage but Blackburn were given a lifeline when Stuart Hay was adjudged to have handled inside the 6 yard box and the ref pointed to the spot.To add to Dales misery he then sent off Hay for the offence much to the dismay of the experienced mid-fielder.
Blackburn scored from the penalty but within minutes Dale themselves were awarded another penalty when a late challenge just inside the box sent Stewart flying and Buchan again did the needful sending the keeper the wrong way to ease any Glendale nerves.
With only ten men the second half was always going to be difficult but the Glendale defence stood firm and with Callum Stewart and Mark Robb working hard up front were content to hit on the break but on the hour mark Blackburn pulled a goal Back to make it game on again 3-2.
However when Stewart was sent tumbling just outside of the box up stepped Buchan to curl a beauty into the top corner to complete his hat-trick in style.
With the clock ticking down Blackburn threw everything at Dale and Stewart Muirhead produced a terrific save only for the centre forward to follow up and force home the rebound.
The remainder of the game was played inside the Glendale half but it was Glendale who deservedly held on to book an away tie to Formartine in the next round.
