Glendale’s failure to convert chances came back to haunt them again as they went down 2-0 to Cammachmore in a league game at Newtonhill.
Glendale’s resources were stretched again but were still able to name a strong starting 11 and should have been ahead on 3 minutes. Michael Thomson clipped a ball over the top and Rebun Blansby beat the offside trap to race clear on goal his shot struck the outstretched foot of goalkeeper Murray and was diverted on to the outside of the woodwork for a corner. Blanksby was again clear in on goal this time from a wider angle but he hurried his shot which flew high over the bar. Christian Lechner was next to show first with a driving run from deep in his own half which saw him evade numerous “tackles” before eventually being crowded out but had a better chance minutes later when he burst through and found himself one on one on the keeper but again Murray stayed big to block Lechner’s effort. Cammachmore had their first real effort on goal on 22 minutes when Graham Smith struck a fierce shot from the edge of the box but Ciran-Fox Gibb dived low to his right to get just enough on the ball to turn it round the post. Stuart Gray was next to have a chance for Cammachmore when a cross from the right fell into his path but his volley drifted wide. Glendale were given a great opportunity to forge ahead when Murray picked up a pass back but Steven Middleton struck his his shot into the wall and as the half time whistle blew there was little to separate the teams in open play but Glendale had passed up 3 glorious chances.
The second half saw Dale play down the slope with the wind at their backs but it was Cammachmore who slowly began to take control. Some of Glendale’s problems however were self inflicted with stray passes allowing Cammachmore to regain possession far too easily and Dale were eventually punished after a mix up between Callum Buchan and Michael Walls saw Cammachmore gain an avoidable corner. when the ball was crossed in Gray’s flick was blocked on the line by Gibb but CALLUM ADAMS re acted quickest to force the ball over the line. Dale huffed and puffed thereafter but Cammachmore had the advantage and were not likely to let that go and doubled their lead on 78 minutes CHRIS SOMERS broke free up the right cut inside and fired a low shot beyond Gibb giving the keeper no chance. Dale replaced Connor Pirie with Andrew MacPherson and it was he who came closest to pulling a goal back when his free kick from 25 yards brought out an outstanding save from Murray to once again deny Glendale.
Another tough one to take for Glendale with good chances again passed up which would have put a completely different complexion on the game, the story of the season so far really!
M.o M Christian Lechner.
