Glendale crashed to another heavy defeat on Saturday conceding 7 goals for the 3rd time this season as they faced Continental at Kingswells on league duty.
With a number of players missing Glendale had to make a number of changes for the first time in 4 games but were boosted by the return of Christian Lechner who took his place in a back four.
Glendale almost scored in the first minute when Danny Lechner swung in a corner from the left and Alfie Chalmers saw his flick strike the cross bar ,the ball eventually scrambled clear. Dale were dominating proceedings and Ruben Blanskby was next to go close when he cut inside his shot from 18 yards just missing the target. However in 10 minutes completely against the run of play Continental broke away and scored. A ball over the top of the Dale defence saw Alex Henderson hesitate and that was all the invitation GRANT WEST required as nipped in to clip the ball past the keeper. Undeterred Glendale proceeded to batter Continental as they out passed their opponent’s. Greg Shaw saw his effort clear the bar Blanksby again went close with a low drive, Steven Middleton saw his near post header from another Lechner corner cleared off the line before Glendale’s domination was finally rewarded when STEVEN MIDDLETON cut inside on to his right foot and his shot from 18 yards took a deflection to land in the net for a deserved equaliser. Steven Watt with a chip shot which had Henderson scrambling back served notice that Continental were still in the game but it was a rare moment from the host’s as Glendale continued to press forward and Kyle Simons forced a good save out of Stuart Nicolson Craig Thomson lofted one over the bar from 5 yards and right on the half time whistle Nicolson again came to his teams rescue with another fine stop from Blanksby. As the half time whistle blew there was no hint of what was to come as Glendale had dominated so much with some outstanding football. H.T1-1
The second half was barely 2 minutes old when Continental went ahead again when Scott Paterson was allowed time to swing in a cross and GRANT WEST rose majestically to head powerfully away from Henderson into the net. Worse was to follow on 50 minutes when JAKUB TAJAY cut in from the right and easily beat Henderson to make it 3. GRANT WEST made it 4 when he out muscled the Dale defence to poke the ball past Henderson then a long clearance from goalkeeper Nicolson saw JACUB TAJAY read the bounce and loft over Hendeson to make it 5-1. GRANT WEST then scored twice more, the second a delicate chip to bring his personal tally to an incredible five and how Glendale must have wished they had a striker of this quality all his finishes were cool, calm and CLINICAL! the difference between the teams.
A shell shocked Dale, to their credit kept plugging away but never really looked like they were going to get back into the game and must still be scratching their heads that they can so dominate a first 45 minutes yet lose so heavily during the second 45.
