Glendale progressed into the 3rd of the Association cup with a narrow but deserved win against Sheddocksley at Maryculter on Saturday. Despite heavy rain all day Friday the pitch was in remarkably good condition at kick off and Glendale almost scored in the very first minute when Connor Pirie found himself through on goal but Hardie was quick off his line to save. However it was Sheds who opened the scoring with only two minutes on the clock and again it was a defensive disaster for Glendale. Ryan McRae cut out a through ball but failed to get enough purchase on his header back to his goalkeeper and BANKS raced through to clip the ball past a stranded Derek McKenzie to put his side ahead. Glendale went straight back on the attack and Kevin Watson fired a fierce shot at goal which Hardie did well to touch round the post then James McMahon rounded the keeper but from a tight angle his shot rattled the outside of the post and another chance was gone . J McMahon then fired straight at Hardie when through on goal as Glendale threatened again. On 23 minutes Glendale finally made a break through when Steven Middleton played a pass through to J McMahon who made ground down the right before squaring a pass back to STEVEN MIDDLETON who calmly swept a shot pass Hardie. 5 minutes later Dale were in front when Middleton cut in from the left and shot towards the goal JAMES McMAHON getting the slightest of touches to divert the ball into the net and give his side a deserved half time lead.
The second half started slowly with neither side on top but on 57 minutes Sheddocksley were unlucky not to equalise when Brooks gathered the ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed a terrific strike which crashed back off the top of the bar. It was the wake up call Glendale needed as they raced up the park and Middleton found DANNY LECHNER with a clever pass on the edge of the box and he drilled a low shot beyond Hardie. James McMahon was brought down inside the box soon after for a stone wall penalty but Hardie, who had made several impressive saves through out the game, dived low to his right to push the spot kick round the post. With 15 minutes to go Sheddocksley were back in the game when RILEY was given too much time and he side stepped Alex McMahon and struck a low shot past D McKenzie from 15 yards. Sheddocksley pushed hard to get the game to extra time but Glendale held on for a much needed morale boosting victory.
