Glendale remain anchored at the foot of the table after another defeat this time to AC Mill Inn who completed the double over The Dale with a narrow victory at Maryculter.
Glendale had the experienced Derek Craigie as a trialist at centre half as AC MillInn kicked off and as both teams battled to gain the upper hand it was the visitor’s who nearly drew first blood on 11 minutes when Anderson cut inside and from 18 yards curled a shot which was heading into the far corner only for Derek McKenzie to fling himself to his left and somehow touch the ball onto the post, Muir was unable to convert the rebound but the save drew applause from both sides of he park. Glendale forced a series of corners but the AC Mill Inn defence stood firm. James McMahon forced a save from Swan but it was McKenzie who again saved his side with another outstanding save this time from Muir twisting in mid air to touch a shot round the post. The game was being played at a frentic pace and Swan had to play almost as a extra sweeper at times reading the situation well to race from his line and mop things up to thwart the Glendale forwards. Right on the half time whistle AC Mill Inn went ahead and it was a “Look away now” moment for John Cameron. Cameron read the play to intercept a through ball but could only look on in horror as his attempted pass back to his keeper was short and MUIR was left clean through and he gave McKenzie no chance to put his side ahead. There was only time to re start the game as the Referee blew for half time .
There was no let up in the pace of the game into the second half in what was an entertaining game although short on clear cut chances for either side but on 63 minutes AC Mill Inn scored again when MUIR was allowed to advance towards goal and from 18 yards hit a low left foot grounder which deceived Derek McKenzie as it sneaked in at the left hand post. Danny Lechner replaced Kevin Watson for Dale and it was the substitute who pulled his side back into the game with a great strike. James McMahon held the ball in, laid it back to DANNY LECHNER who quickly switched the ball from his right foot to his left and dispatched a shot from 16 yards beyond Swan. Glendale pressed hard for what would have been a deserved equaliser but AC Mill Inn ,with Mair outstanding at the back for them never looked like they would crack and held on for 3 very good points.
MOM Derek McKenzie.
