After two attempts to get the game played, Dale are hoping it will be 3rd time lucky come Saturday when they play Premier division Westdyke in the AFC Cup at Lawsondale.
The AFC cup is the last chance of silverware after what has been a disapointing season in terms of cup performances and the Dale will be looking for a repeat of the improved performance in the last round against a high flying Mintlaw to hopefully see them into the hat for the next round.

After a break from playing since early December's 1-1 draw with Burghmuir due to the weather and the Xmas break, its back to league business for the Dale on Saturday with University Strollers the visitors to Maryculter for a crucial league game. With both sides desperate for the 3 points to move them up the table its vital that the Dale are up for the game from kick off and start well.

Following on from the back of 2 defeats to Fordbank Star in the Scottish Cup then Sportsmans in The North of Scotland, Dale were on cup duty for the 3rd week in a row away to high flying Div 2 North leaders Mintlaw in the AFC Cup.
After an early scare when Mintlaw hit the woodwork twice in close succession, Dale got to grips with the game playing down the slope and ended the half 3-0 up thanks to goals from Scott Grant, Kenny Austin and an O.G by the Mintlaw keeper. Dale then went 4-0 up early in the second half when Grant again beat the ropey Mintlaw offside trap to calmly round the keeper and finish into an empty net. Roared on by a noisy sideline that you won't be seeing on Mastermind any time soon, Mintlaw came back into the game with a couple of quick goals but despite being under pressure for most of the remainder of the 2nd half the Dale defence held firm for a welcome win to advance into the last 16 of the cup.
After conceding 14 goals in the previous 3 games, the players should all take confidence from the defensive performance from the Mintlaw game and start to realise that staying organised and keeping shape will more often than not bring results in amateur football.

Dale's recent recovery suffered a setback yesterday with 5-1 defeat away to a slick Tarves side. After a reasonably solid first half playing up the infamous Tarves slope, the Dale went out at the start of the second half confident of getting a result, but a poor second half performance put paid to that. Dale's MoM was keeper Neil Walker which tells its own story. Michael Thomson scored the solitary goal in the first half.
Its now up to everyone at the club to react in the right way to what was a pretty sore defeat and learn the lessons that as soon as you stop doing the basics of keeping it tight and holding good shape aligned with full effort for the 90 minutes then you will always get punished in amateur football.
Following their 6-2 victory over Rutherglen yesterday, the Dale will now face Fordbank Star in Paisley on Saturday in the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Not sure if you can have 6 pointers so early in the season, but if you can then Dales's game with Westhill on Saturday was one! With both sides desperate for a win to push them up the table it was the Dale that came out on top with a solid performance and a clean sheet in a 2-0 win. Scorers for the Dale were Neil Innes and Simon Darwin. With 3 wins, a draw and a single defeat in the last 5 games hopefully the Dale's season is now well and truely on the right track.
The draw for the Scottish Cup was made last week with the Dale drawn to play the winners of the Fordbank Star v's Rutherglen tie away from home.

After Dales 2-1 defeat to Halliburton yesterday, it would be easy to blame a weak refereeing performance or opponents that inexplicably seemed intent on wasting time from kick off, but in the cold light of day a lack of quality and cutting edge in the final third of the pitch cost us dear on a windy day at Lawsondale. A late Andy Will penalty was scant consolation on a disapointing afternoon.

Glendale kept their recent recovery going with a 1-1 draw away to Insch. Scott Grant followed up his hat-trick last Saturday with the vital goal in what was a fair result for both sides.

Glendale followed up on last weeks victory with a hard fought 4-3 win over Highland Hotel at Inverdee to reach the 3rd round of the AFC Cup. Scott Grant was the hero for the Dale with a well deserved hat-trick his performance deserved. After going 2-0 down in the first 30 minutes, Dale fought back with a Grant goal just on half time. Grant's 2nd and 3rd goals turned the game in Dale's favour before Highland were awarded a soft penalty which was duly converted to square the tie. Neil Innes, introduced as a second half sub, showed his class and turned in a captains performance which turned the game in Dale's favour which included scoring what turned out to be the winner with a controlled finish.
In the end, it is the result that matters and the Dale are in the hat for the next round, however after last weeks assured and organised display it was back to bad habits during the first half, something that we have to learn from if we are to build on the last 2 wins and have a successful season.

Glendale progressed to the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday with a much needed 4-1 win against Stonehaven Athletic at Maryculter after a very assured and solid performance. Great credit must go to Neil and his back 4 of Johnny, Les, Scott and Kenny who looked organised throughout and also to the midfield who gave the back 4 good cover for the entire 90 minutes (well about 88 to be exact - but we won't worry to much about their consolation!).
Same again next game lads!

The superior fitness and pace of the current team was the deciding factor as they won the annual challenge match with the Old Crocks at a sunny Maryculter on Sunday. The Old Crocks took an early lead only for the current team to equalise and then take the lead with their second goal early in the second half. The crocks countered with 2 excellent goals to get their noses back in front 3-2, but were slowly ground down by the current team and as the gaps began to appear the young guns (and Andy Noble) ran riot and scored another 4 (or it could have been 5) goals to run out comforatble winners in the end.
The 2 man of the match awards went to Gary Mullen for his well taken brace (not easy especially with Kenny Austin in his back pooch) and the lively Alan Aitken who rolled back the years and delivered a pinpoint cross which was excellently finished by Mark Dickson.
Star men for the current team were Andy "Klinsmann" Noble who showed what a big miss he is for the team on a Saturday at the moment and the ever lively Michael Thomson and Calum Stuart.
In a day of rolling substitutions, perhaps the most contentious decision was the withdrawal of referee Steve Summers at half time to be replaced with the Dale's own Perluigi Collina lookalike Jim Grant. Any other comparision to the great Italian referee stops there, I'm afraid!
The traditional player awards for last season were also awarded in the Old Mill Inn after the game yesterday with Calum Stuart winning the Charlie Summers Award for Players Player of the Year, Michael Thomson winning the Young Player of the Year and the Richard Fearn winning the Bob Scott Trophy for Clubman of the Year. Congratulations to all 3 very worthy winners.

The Crocks are coming.............
With the current squads indifferent start to the season, a game against the Old Crocks should be seen as an opportunity to get in some shooting practice and gain some much needed confidence however, with a strong crocks squad expected on the 25th the old boys are confident of getting their first win over the current team for a couple of years, particularly after running the young guns close in the last couple of seasons.
Beware guys..........you have been warned!
PS - by the way the Tarves game was called off today due to a waterlogged pitch.

Just when it seemed things were improving after the last performance, the Dale returned to bad habits and were 4-0 down after 20 minutes to Rattrays XI on Saturday with defending that the keystone cops would have been happy with. The team did pick up their performance after what was argueably the clubs worst start to a game in its 39 year history, to create a number of chances and show that there was actually nothing between the teams in terms of ability. However as the management have expressed already this season, ability alone gets you nothing in amateur football without desire and organisation. At this rate the Old Crocks team will be fancying their chances of getting a result in a couple of weeks!
On that note the Annual Old Crocks game will take place on Sunday 25th September at Maryculter, kick off time to be confirmed with the usual festivities laid on at the Old Mill Inn after the game. Any Ex-Glendale players interested in playing should contact Steve Abercrombie on 07810 657238 for confirmation of full details.

The international break has come at a good time to let the players and management come to terms with what has been a pretty poor start to the season especially after all the hard work that went into pre-season. However an improved performance against Nicols Amateurs just before the break should give the squad confidence that it is just a matter of time before the performances and results start to come. Long, long way to go and thankfully the league results so far have shown that every team has the capability to beat everyone else in what should end up being quite an open league.

Dale sufferred a disappointing 6-2 defeat to Beacon Rangers on Wednesday night, which has left the management scratching their heads as to why such a talented squad of footballers can put in such a poor performance. The positive thing is that at this stage in the season the next game is only a couple of days away, so come on lads step up to the plate, put a bit of pride into your performance and show everyone that you are a lot better than recent results suggest.

Dale's early season recovery comes to a premature end following a 2-1 defeat to a robust and workmanlike Kaimhill United at Maryculter on Saturday. Goals early in the first half and late in the second prove its a game of 90 minutes.

2 Down 1 To Go
After such a good team performance in the first pre season friendly, 5 - 0 away win to Kintore, to lose so timidly 5 - 0 to Glendale Youth doesn't add up. Despite the scoreline in pre season friendlies having little significance, it shows there's a lot of work still to be done between now and the first game of the season away to Ellon. Final friendly against Great Western on Tuesday will provide a last chance for all players to show that they are worthy of a starting jersey come the first game of the season.
