Final Game
After wild
celebrations on Saturday night/Sunday morning and several renditions
of Championeees there was one final game to finish off a
successful season - a visit to Uni Strollers. In what was a
strange game with Uni typically playing free flowing football but
seemingly there for a laugh, they came out on top in a poor Glendale
first half. After a regroup at half time and some deserved
harsh words the game was wrapped up with a 2 - 0 victory ensuring a
5 point gap at the top. Finishing the season with Most Wins,
Least Defeats, Most Goals Scored and 1 goal short of joint best Goal
Difference there is no doubt after 26 League games who deserved to
be league champions 2008/09.

League Champions
Saturday 23rd of
May - A date etched in Glendale's history: first ever league trophy,
a long time in coming. A hard fought 2 - 0 win over Rothie
Rovers secured the title with a game to go, a deserved
accomplishment over the whole season. It was also fitting that
there was a special guest appearance from none other than Charlie
Summers, he was 'vewwy pwoud' indeed to see his team lift a
league title.

'Biggest Game
of The Season' Message
Gents,
Just a quick message to wish everybody all the best for tomorrow.
It's been a long season, but the reward is just one game away.
Think back to all the training sessions held in the cold winter
months, all the hard fought games, all the bumps and bruises, all
the last minute equalising and winning goals.
A league title will be fully deserved and a great achievement, but
nobody is going to hand it to us.
Go out and grab it!

Two Draws - Two Vital Results
After two draws against league chasers
Ellon and Stoneywood, 2-2 & 3-3 respectively, it gives Glendale an
almighty advantage in the race for the title. The draw with
Ellon ended their push which might even cost them promotion and the
result against Stoneywood makes it a lot easier to win the title as
Glendale are now only a win away from the title (or two draws) with
two games to play. Both games were a struggle as the home sides took
the initiative and required a fight back, but as has been the case
this season the will to win, hunger, desire and fighting for each
other has helped tough out some matches and win others.
Furthermore Saturday's game is now the
biggest game of the season!

Silverware Update
The Dickie Trophy was unfortunately
not meant to be with a score line that flattered the winners.
Despite deserving to win, a potentially good contest of free flowing
football was spoiled with a harsh red card for 'keeper Neil Walker
which resulted in a hard slog that ended up becoming a one way
affair for over 80 minutes.
However, with the cup now a distant
memory it should make Glendale even more determined to win their
remaining games and become the league champions.
If anybody from Glendale had the
choice before the final of winning either the Cup or the League,
nearly everyone would take the league which means there is still a
lot to play for yet!

Up For The Cup
Final
Crathes is the
scene for the Dickie Trophy Final between two of the form teams in
Amateur football, Glendale and Hilton. With Friday fast
approaching, Glendale go into their first cup final in over 5 years
as debatable favourites. Despite topping the 2nd Division
(East), facing any team that has amassed over 100 Goal Difference is
a tough task, whatever the league. This is why Glendale will
have to be 100% at the top of their game, committed to every tackle,
winning the second ball, and have the desire/hunger to win some
silverware.
Top Of The League
Monday night saw
Glendale move deservedly into top spot in the 2nd Division (East)
after a tough match against Uni Strollers, winning 3 - 1.
Other matches during the week have seen some interesting results
sway in favour to the 'Dale, with Ellon losing at home to
Halliburton and Stoney drawing at home to McTeagle. The race
for the title is now really down to Stoney and Glendale with the
latter having 2 games in hand and a 1 point lead. Promotion
now seems a certainty, however it is the title that everyone
involved with Glendale really craves as it would be the first league
title in this great clubs' history.
25/04/2009
Second Place
Glendale have now
moved up to second spot with two wins in a week. Having seen
off Halliburton during the week, which pretty much ends their
promotion hopes, a well deserved 5-2 win over McTeagle puts the
mighty 'Dale into second. As good as it is to be 1 point
behind 1st and have 2 games in hand to the top two, both of whom
lost today, there is still a lot to play for. Glendale still
have Insch at home and also visit Ellon, Stoneywood, so there has
been nothing decided with nearly a quarter of the season to go.

Best Wishes
The recent home match against
University Strollers was abandoned after 7 minutes due to a horrific
injury to the visitors 'keeper. An ambulance had to be called
after a 50-50 collision with the Glendale striker and their 'keeper,
resulting in what appeared to be a broken leg. After much
deliberation the match was abandoned and will be rescheduled in the
coming weeks. Everyone at Glendale AFC wishes the 'keeper all
the best and a speedy recovery.
Streak Comes To An End
After going 14 games in the league
without defeat, including 7 games won in a row, it all came to an
end after a hard fought game against Luthermuir. It was always
going to be a hard game as Luthermuir are always difficult
opponents, and with the game fairly balanced at 1 all it seemed to
be heading for a draw until their lethal No.9 popped up with the
winner. C'est La Vie, let's start another undefeated spell and
finish off the season as league winners.

Cup Final!
Glendale are now a step closer to possibly parading
the Dickie Trophy in an open top bus round Maryculter after
defeating a spirited Trophies. It took 120 minutes of play for
Glendale to book their place in the final against Mintlaw or Hilton,
with the score finishing at 3 - 2. There were a few niggly
moments in the game from both teams with Trophies having a player,
quite harshly, sent off for kicking out at an opponent. The
general feeling afterwards was slightly more downbeat than expected
as again a result had to be ground out, however the most important
thing is the result and booking a place in the final.

Big Match
Having now extended the undefeated streak in the
league to 13 games unbeaten, a disappointing draw at Insch and a
narrow win at Monymusk, the attention is turned to the chase for cup
silverware - The Dickie Trophy. On Saturday 4th April the
winners of Trophies International and Glendale go to fight for the
right to play in a cup final. It's been way too long since
Glendale were at a final, never mind winning a cup, which makes it
all the more important that desire and attitude is right from the
first whistle.

4 Horse Race?
After a 2 - 0 win on Saturday and having gone 11
games unbeaten in the league it appears that there are 4 teams
breaking away to challenge for the league, however a lot depends on
the result from the Halliburton match at Lawsondale as a win for the
home side opens it up again to 5 challengers. With a visit to
Insch on Saturday 21st this will prove a test of character and the
desire to be champions.

Glendale Up To Fourth
Finally back to league duty and Glendale managed
to continue an unbeaten run which spans all the way back to
Mid-August, by defeating Bankhead 4 - 0 in a game of two halves.
An early goal followed by two quick-fire goals in the first half
made it a little easier up the mountain in the second half. It
was so steep that when Martin went on a mazy he needed an oxygen
tank and a St Bernard to help him back.

Glendale Progress To Semi Final
Another cup game, another game
ending in pens. That is the last 3 cup games that have ended
with extra time followed by pens with Glendale coming out on top
winning 3 - 1 on pens (4 - 4 AET) which booked a Semi Final away day
to Trophies International or University Strollers. A deserved result
in the end despite making hard work of it.

'Fitba' Quiz - Reminder
The fitba quiz night will take place at the Inn At The Park on
Polmuir Rd on Saturday 28th February, kick off 7.30pm.
The plan is to have about 25 teams of four, but we may be able to
squeeze in a few more in if there's the demand.
Stovies and the like will be laid on by the hotel and we're looking
at charging £10 per person so we can generate some decent funds for
the club.
Ideally, we'll all be able to form a team each from mates and people
you know who ken a lot about fitba. If possible, can you let me
know if you've got a team as soon as possible, and collect the cash
off the lads in advance of the night, so i can know where we stand
with regards to numbers.
We'll also be doing another raffle, so if you have any spare Xmas
bottles or decent prizes kicking about, give them to myself or Jim
Brechin.
Doog will be question master and I will be the adjudicator and
marker to make sure there's no cheating going on!
Cheers
Andy

Cup Draw
The draw for the Quarter Final of
Dickie Trophy has been made, with The Mighty 'Dale away to Grammar
FP's this weekend coming (14/02/2009). Provided there's a positive result a trip away to
Trophies, Highland Hotel or University Strollers awaits in the Semi
Final. Despite some potential banana skins, a cup win is very
achievable.

Cup Defeat
After an epic battle spanning extra
time then onto pens, Westdyke came out on top but they were made to
fight for it right to the death by a determined Glendale. For
more see Match Reports.

Website is
Finally Live
Despite The Mighty
'Dale being around since the birth of Stevie's Moustache, there
hasn't been a web site to inform our fan's worldwide (worldwide
really means Taylor & Stu) of our latest results, league position
etc.
However
we are now in the 21st Century! |
